Kellogg Names NYU Stern’s Sally Blount New Dean

On March 30, Sally Blount, the current dean of undergraduate studies and vice dean at NYU’s Stern School of Business, was named new dean of Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. Ms. Blount, a graduate of Kellogg, will begin her new position in July.

In a Kellogg press release Blount says, “It is a great honor to be appointed to lead Kellogg. The school has meant so much to me professionally and personally. I am eager to work with our outstanding faculty, students, alumni, administrators, supporters, corporate stakeholders, and global partners to keep Kellogg pushing the frontiers of global business education forward.”

According to the Wall Street Journal, Kellogg had been searching for a new dean for nine months to succeed Dipak Jain, former dean of Kellogg who stepped down after eight years of leadership. Ms. Blount is considered a strong match for the position because of her “alumni status and continued connection with Kellogg.” Also, her strong emphasis on teamwork and cohesion further prove her fit with Kellogg’s program.

A BusinessWeek article that also covers the appointment of Sally Blount as Kellogg dean describes Ms. Blount’s challenge of entering the position of dean during a $250 million campaign for a new building and during a time of financial crisis when more and more graduates are having trouble securing jobs. Ms. Blount has already secured Kellogg’s first $15 million gift and has other large-scale fundraising plans for the top b-school.

Before Ms. Blount joined the management faculty at NYU Stern in 2001, she taught at Chicago Booth.
